X-Men: Children of the Atom is a landmark 2D fighting game developed and published by Capcom, originally released on the CP System II (CPS2) arcade hardware in December 1994. It is historically significant as Capcom’s first fighting game to feature licensed characters from Marvel Comics.

Gameplay Mechanics
The game introduced several innovations that became staples of later Capcom fighting titles:
- Super Jumps and Air Combat: Unlike traditional ground-based fighters, characters can perform massive vertical jumps and engage in mid-air skirmishes.
- X-Power Gauge: Players build a multi-level meter to execute “Hyper X” special moves and unique “X-Abilities”.
- Destructible Environments: Stages feature multi-tiered levels where the floor can crumble, causing characters to fall into a new fighting area.
- Combo System: It features a fast-paced, free-form combo system that allows for long sequences of hits both on the ground and in the air.

Character Roster
The game features 10 core playable characters, plus hidden and boss characters:
- Playable X-Men: Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Psylocke, Colossus, and Iceman.
- Playable Villains: Sentinel, Omega Red, Silver Samurai, and Spiral.
- Secret Character: Akuma from Super Street Fighter II Turbo is playable via a hidden code.
- Unplayable Bosses (Arcade): Juggernaut (sub-boss) and Magneto (final boss). These characters were only made playable in certain home ports or via modern compilations.
