Vampire Savior 2: The Lord of Vampire is a 1997 Japan-only arcade update to the third Darkstalkers game, released simultaneously with Vampire Hunter 2 to address the CPS2’s storage limitations. It is an alternate version rather than a true sequel.

Roster Swaps
Due to memory constraints, Capcom could not fit all characters onto a single CPS2 board. To bring back popular characters missing from the original Vampire Savior, the roster was rotated:
- Added: Donovan, Huitzil (Phobos), and Pyron.
- Removed: Jon Talbain (Gallon), Rikuo (Aulbath), and Sasquatch.
- Secret Characters: Adds playable versions of Oboro Bishamon, Shadow, and Marionette (a mirror-match character).
Key Gameplay & Visual Changes
- Dark Force System Tweak: Unlike the first Savior, Dark Force no longer grants unique special moves; instead, it acts as a general power-up that boosts attributes and causes unhealable damage.
- Combo Changes: Air chain combos are significantly harder to execute or removed, depending on the character, requiring stricter timing.
- Stage Aesthetics: Existing stages feature recolored backgrounds (often darker or more saturated), and the music and UI elements are updated.
- Simplified Story: Character-specific endings were removed and replaced with a generic ending for all fighters except the final boss, Jedah.
