Thunder Blade is a 1987 combat flight simulator and rail shooter developed by Sega for arcades. Heavily inspired by the 1983 film Blue Thunder, it puts you in control of a high-tech attack helicopter.

Core Gameplay & Mechanics
- Dual Perspectives: Levels shift between a top-down (overhead) view and a third-person (over-the-shoulder) view.
- Altitude & Speed Control: In the overhead sections, you can adjust your height to zoom in/out of combat and use a turbo mode to vary your forward speed.
- Combat: Equipped with a chain gun for airborne targets and missiles for ground-based enemies like tanks and oil refineries.
- Environments: The game consists of four rounds through cities, deserts, caves, and refineries.

Innovative Arcade Hardware
- Super Scaler Technology: Running on the Sega X Board, the game used advanced sprite scaling to create a 3D effect with 2D graphics.
- Cabinet Types:
- Stand-up: Featured a flight stick with force feedback (vibration).
- Deluxe Sit-down: A motion simulator cockpit that tilted and moved in tandem with the player’s joystick movements.
- Soundtrack: A funk and fusion score composed by Koichi Namiki, Katsuhiro Hayashi, and Tohru Nakabayashi.
