Released in 2000, Mars Matrix: Hyper Solid Shooting is a classic bullet-hell (danmaku) vertically scrolling shooter. Developed by Takumi and published by Capcom, it originally ran on the CPS-2 arcade system board before being ported to the Sega Dreamcast in 2001.

Gameplay Mechanics
The game is renowned for its single-button control scheme, which manages four distinct functions based on how the button is pressed:
- Rapid Shot: Activated by tapping the button quickly for long-range attacks.
- Piercing Cannon: Triggered by tapping slowly for a powerful, short-range burst.
- Mosquito Barrier: Engaged by holding the button to absorb enemy bullets, which can then be reflected back as “Experience Cubes”.
- Gravity Hole Bomb: A screen-clearing attack used by holding the button until the gauge is full.

Key Features
- Horizontal Monitor: Unique for a vertical shooter, it uses a horizontal screen layout, giving it a “wide” play area.
- Experience System: Players level up their ship by collecting gold “Experience Cubes” rather than traditional power-ups.
- Difficulty: It is notorious for its “savage difficulty” and high bullet counts, demanding precise strategy and barrier management.
- Ships: Players choose between two craft: the Mosquito-01 (wide spread shot, average speed) and the Mosquito-02 (concentrated straight shot, high speed).
