The Macross Plus arcade game is a vertical scrolling shooter developed by NMK and published by Banpresto in 1996. It is based on the Macross Plus OVA and movie edition anime series. 

The Macross Plus arcade game has a simplified story premise compared to the anime OVA: the goal is simply to stop the evil AI Sharon Apple’s coup on Planet Eden. The game is a vertical scrolling shooter with different endings depending on which character the player chooses and whether they beat the game a second time. 

Game Story & Progression

The core objective of the game is to pilot a variable fighter and fight through seven stages to reach the Macross and destroy Sharon Apple’s central computer, effectively ending her rogue control. 

Alternate Endings: Beating the game a second time (in the same sitting) triggers a slightly different, alternate ending for the main characters, Isamu and Guld. The female pilot’s ending does not change.

Character Choice: Players can select one of three pilots, each with their own unique variable fighter:

Isamu Alva Dyson in the YF-19.

Guld Goa Bowman in the YF-21.

An original, unnamed female pilot using the VF-11.

Multiple Endings: An ending sequence is shown upon completion of all seven levels, which varies based on the character chosen.
