Giga Wing is a 1999 vertically scrolling shoot ’em up developed by Takumi Corporation and published by Capcom on their CPS-2 (Capcom Play System 2) arcade hardware. It is famously known for its “Reflect Force” mechanic and massive score multipliers that reach into the trillions.

Core Gameplay Mechanics
- Reflect Force: Instead of just dodging, players can charge a shield (by holding the fire button) that reflects enemy bullets back at them.
- Scoring: Reflected bullets that hit enemies turn into medals, which build a persistent multiplier throughout the run, allowing for astronomical 16-digit scores.
- Bombs: Traditional “screen-clearing” bombs are available but limited, providing temporary invincibility and massive damage.
- Orientation: Despite being a vertical shooter, it uses a horizontally aligned (4:3) monitor, a rare configuration often called a “vertizontal”.

Plot and Characters
The story is set in a steampunk world during a fictional war over the Medallion, a divine stone capable of great destruction. Four pilots, each with their own unique ship and storyline, fight to destroy it:
- Sinnosuke (Raijin): Descendant of a tribe guarding a power stone; flies a balanced ship.
- Isha (Porchka): A former ace pilot turned nurse; flies a versatile ship with homing shots.
- Ruby (Carmine): An ex-aerial pirate who founded an orphanage; flies a fast, high-power ship.
- Stuck (Widerstand): A cyborg doctor seeking to save his wife (turned to stone by the Medallion); flies a heavy ship with cluster bombs.
