Eco Fighters (known in Japan as Ultimate Ecology) is a horizontal shoot ’em up released by Capcom in December 1993. It was the second game ever released for the CPS2 arcade hardware, following Super Street Fighter II.

Game Summary
- Plot: Set in a future where humanity colonizes other planets, players control “Eco Fighters” (pilots Ice and Neneh) to stop the ruthless Goyolk K.K. Corporation from polluting the planet Elwood.
- Developer: It was developed by the same team responsible for the Mega Man arcade titles (The Power Battle and The Power Fighters), which is reflected in its bright, colorful art style.
- Origin: The game’s concept was actually the result of a “design-a-game” contest won by a Japanese gamer.

Core Gameplay Mechanics
The defining feature of Eco Fighters is its 360-degree rotating gun arm attached to the front of the player’s ship.
- Rotation: Players use two dedicated buttons to rotate the arm clockwise or counter-clockwise. This allows you to fire at enemies from any angle without moving the ship.
- Weapon Types: There are four primary arm weapons: the default Energy Shot, the Hammer (acts like a heavy yo-yo), the Laser Sword, and the Foil Scatter Bomb.
- Power-ups: Weapons can be upgraded through five levels by collecting gems. Additionally, the ship can fire sub-weapons like a Vulcan cannon, bombs, or homing shots.
- Charge Attacks: The arm can unleash powerful charge attacks. Unlike many shooters, you do not need to stop firing to charge; the weapon “juices up” while you are actively shooting.
