Donpachi

DonPachi is a 1995 vertical-scrolling bullet hell (manic shooter) arcade game developed by Cave and published by Atlus in Japan. It is the inaugural title from Cave—founded by former Toaplan employees—and is considered a progenitor of the “bullet hell” sub-genre.

Key Gameplay Features

Legendary Bosses: The game is famous for its extreme difficulty and massive, multi-form bosses, including the secret final boss Hibachi, accessible only after completing a second “loop” of the game under strict conditions.

Chaining System: Introduced a combo system that became a staple of the series, where destroying enemies in quick succession increases the score.

Dual Firing Modes: Players can tap the fire button for a wide “Shot” spread or hold it down for a concentrated, high-damage “Laser” beam.

Hidden Mechanics: Finding hidden “Bee” icons throughout the levels provides significant scoring bonuses.
