1941 COUNTER ATTACK
1941: Counter Attack, released on the Capcom Play System (CPS-1) arcade board in 1990, has a simple storyline where players fight a “new empire” in the European theater of World War II. The plot is minimal, serving primarily as a backdrop for the fast-paced, vertical-scrolling shooter gameplay.
Final Fight
Released in 1989 on the CPS1 (Capcom Play System 1) arcade board, Final Fight set the gold standard for urban beat ’em ups. Originally conceived as a sequel called Street Fighter ’89, it was rebranded to establish its own identity.
Magic Sword: Heroic Fantasy
Released in 1990 for Capcom’s CPS-1 hardware, Magic Sword: Heroic Fantasy is a side-scrolling hack-and-slash that trades Strider’s futuristic tech for classic high-fantasy tropes.
Strider
The original Strider (released on Capcom’s CPS1 board in 1989) features a more straightforward, high-stakes plot compared to its manga or NES counterparts. It is set in a dystopian 2048, known in Japan as “Meio Year One.”
Forgotten Worlds
Forgotten Worlds (known as Lost Worlds in Japan) is a classic side-scrolling shoot-’em-up that holds the distinction of being the very first game released on Capcom’s CP System (CPS-1) arcade hardware in 1988.
