Black Tiger, known as Black Dragon in Japan, is a classic 1987 arcade action-platformer developed by Capcom. It is renowned for blending hack-and-slash gameplay with early role-playing elements, like an upgrade system using an in-game currency called Zenny.

Gameplay and Mechanics
Players control a barbarian hero (the “Black Tiger”) tasked with defeating three evil dragons and restoring a kingdom to light.
Vitality System: The hero’s armor can be knocked off after taking damage, similar to Ghosts ‘n Goblins, leaving him more vulnerable. The player’s maximum vitality can be increased by reaching certain score benchmarks.
Exploration: The game features large, sprawling levels that scroll in eight directions, encouraging exploration to find hidden items, money, and power-ups in breakable walls and pots.
Combat: The hero is armed with a dual weapon set: a chain-like flail for melee attacks and daggers for a spreadshot projectile attack. The player can attack while jumping or climbing, adding a dynamic feel to combat.
Upgrades: Defeated enemies drop “Zenny” coins, which can be spent at shops run by rescued wise men to purchase better armor, stronger weapons (which are permanent upgrades), keys for treasure chests, and anti-poisoning potions.
